Boone Country. Colonel John Mill, a
Revolutionary
War Soldier, named Richmond after his birthplace in
Richmond,
Virginia. Richmond serves as the seat of
Madison

Historic Register and three recognized Historic Districts.
Richmond's lovely downtown area, characterized by antique shops and

site, in Fort

The park is home to a delightful reconstruction of Daniel Boone's fort.
Found along the banks of the
Kentucky River, employees regularly reenact scenes that likely took
place during Daniel Boone's time there. These include dipping candles,
making soap, pottery turning and welding. Other areas of the park offer
beaches, campsites, nature trails and two gift shops. Fort Boonesborough
State Park is an intriguing place that keeps visitors returning year
after year.
Interesting sites such as the Kentucky
Law Enforcement Memorial and White
Hall State Historic Site, a Georgian-style house built by Cassius
Clay in the 1860's, are among the stops found along the Richmond
Downtown Walking Tour of Homes. There is also a driving tour that
follows the Civil War
sites along the "Battle of Richmond". Other popular places to

Run Stables, Richmond
Raceway and the Blue
Grass Army Depot. The Depot is a massive, 15,000-acre facility used
to store ammunition and chemical equipment for the Armed
Forces.
Eastern Kentucky
University (EKU) is the pride and joy of Richmond. In addition to
providing students with a fine education, EKU offers several facilities
and programs to the community of Richmond. These include the EKU
Greenhouse, Meadowbrook
Farm, the monument to Daniel Boone, Hummel
Planetarium and the Community and Workforce Education Program.
Seasonal sporting
events at EKU also bring the community together to cheer on the
college teams.
Additional colleges in the area include the University
of Kentucky and Lexington
Community College. Lexington-Fayette
is approximately 25 miles outside of Richmond.
