Madison County, Kentucky maintains a respectful preservation of its heritage, while progressing into a dynamic community worthy of its namesake, James Madison. James Madison, local founding father and Virginia statesman, later became the fourth U.S. President.

Madison County lies along a ring of hills called the 'knobs'. The knobs claim the middle ground between the southeastern periphery of the Bluegrass Region and the scenic Cumberland Plateau. The Kentucky River separates Madison County from Fayette County, placing residents a short distance from the renowned equestrian city of Lexington. The river also affords the ideal setting for fishing and a variety of water related activities.

Madison County is one of Kentucky's fastest growing regions, and is emerging as an enviable place in which to live and work. Although its healthy economy prospers with a diverse base of industry, the manufacturing sector provides a significant portion of local jobs. The two townships of Berea and Richmond encompass Madison County, KY. Together, they are home to nearly 71,000 residents (Census 2000 data). The county covers more than 440 square miles.

Distinguished as Kentucky's center of artisan craft creations, Berea, KY, population 9,851, features a charming small town ambiance that visitors find inviting. Once home to abolitionist Cassius Marcellus Clay, the Berea community retains a strong sense of its past. Berea College was the South's original interracial college, founded in 1855. The College is a historic mainstay that currently owns a significant portion of Berea's land. The Central Kentucky Wildlife Management is also in Berea. Bybee is a small community in Madison County renowned for its finely crafted pottery, which includes some of the oldest pottery found west of the Allegheny Mountains.

Richmond, population 27,152, serves as the center of commerce and county seat. Home to the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), residents and visitors have access to all extraneous facilities on and around campus. These include sites such as the monument to Daniel Boone and the Hummel Planetarium. EKU also invites the community to cheer on the teams at seasonal sporting events.

Richmond, KY which is also the birthplace of Christopher "Kit" Carson is home to numerous listings on the National Historic Register. Fascinating historic sites include Fort Boonesborough State Park, which was the site of Daniel Boone's outpost, the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial and the White Hall State Historic Site. Civil War buffs enjoy the Battle of Richmond driving tour and the Richmond Downtown Walking Tour of Homes. Additional popular destinations in Richmond include Deer Run Stables and stock car racing at Richmond Raceway.

Madison County, Kentucky, with its abundance of rural charm and warm, hospitable residents is a family-friendly location suitable for vacations with a historic focus. Its unique blend of recreational opportunities, coupled with a business friendly environment, also makes Madison County a wonderful place to live.
